The Need
|
- Water is the foundation for life, growth and human development.
- Yet 1.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water. In Africa, less than half of the people have access to improved water and sanitation.
- The World Health Organization estimates that 6,000 children die each day from water related illnesses.
- In communities without easy access to water, children must often haul the heavy water from sources miles away.
- This heavy labour can cause spinal and reproductive problems, and often prevents them from being able to attend school.
- In addition, sending children long distances for water puts them in danger of assault.
- Join us in The Run for Wells as we seek to make a difference... one well at a time!
