Dear Educators,
The Run For Wells is a great opportunity to get students involved in a community building event that can literally change the future of thousands of families in need!
In 2010, the Run For Wells’ sister event in Abbotsford B.C. attracted 500 students to their run; their efforts alone raised $25,000 for water projects in Ethiopia!
Run For Wells organizers have developed an interesting and interactive lesson plan that can be tailored to students from grades five to nine. Multi-media is used to demonstrate the hardships of life in Africa. Students will learn that many kids their age spend a large part of the day walking for clean water instead of attending school, living a life of unbearable poverty. By participating in the lesson, students have the opportunity to reflect on their own good-fortune and make a positive contribution to the lives of those in need.
Participation is easy. Simply contact race organizers to book a quick meeting to discuss how you’d like to get your class involved. Involvement can range from individual registration in the run or walk, to full class participation in a 90 minute teaching module tailored to meet the unique needs of your students. Together we can develop an approach that works best for you and your class. If needed, we’ll even come to your class to deliver the lesson and increase the impact and authenticity of the experience.
